Alex Wilson was at Shrewsbury between 2003 and 2008 and in that time he contributed a lot to the school both as a dayboy, a sportsman and academically. Football was his major love and he was fortunate enough to play three years of first team football under Mark Lascelles and captained the team in his final year. Football was a massive part of his time at Shrewsbury, and The school was something that he was very fond of.
With the support of the School, Alex’s family have decided to launch with the the Alex Wilson Foundation. This proposal is for a day boy scholarship, which will initially be over 5 years. This opportunity will go to a sportsman in the Alex mould who would otherwise not be able to benefit from the type of education that Shrewsbury School offers an individual.
The school has agreed to match any funds that we are able to raise, which is a massive commitment. As we speak the team are preparing a list of names to send out a letter to that explains the plans we have put in place. To launch the foundation Alex’s brother Henry has organised an Alex Wilson XI which will take on an Old Salopian XI on Sunday 25th September.
The fixture promises to be a great focal point for the foundation and it is something that could perhaps be repeated on an annual basis. There will be refreshments after the game with a few speeches providing an opportunity to generate support for the Foundation.
